Database Design

Normalised database design with a clear ERD, indexing and integrity constraints.

The database is the foundation every system stands on. A weak design does not show at first, but it shows later as slow reports, duplicated or contradictory data, and difficulty adding any feature without breaking what already works.

We start by understanding the data your business handles and how it relates: customers, orders, stock, staff and so on. We then design a normalised schema that avoids duplication, define the keys and constraints that protect data integrity, and add the indexes that keep everyday queries fast.

You receive a clear ERD any developer can follow, with an explanation of every table and field and why it exists. The design can be applied to a new database, or we can review an existing one and propose a plan to improve it and migrate its data without loss.

We work with PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQL Server, choosing what suits your data volume and the systems that will use it. If the system will later be built by another team, the schema and documentation remain a reference any developer can work from without repeating the analysis.

What's included

  • A clear ERD

A documented diagram of tables and relationships for any team working on the system.

  • Data integrity

Keys and constraints that prevent duplicated or contradictory data.

  • Query performance

Indexes built around the queries your business actually runs.

Deliverables

  • A documented ERD
  • A database creation script
  • An explanation of every table and field
  • A data migration plan where needed
